Trailhead: From Rochester, head west toward VT-100 S/S Main Street. Turn right onto VT-73 W (Brandon Mountain Rd). Continue to follow State Rte 73/VT-73 W for 5.4 miles. Turn left onto Chittenden Brook Road and follow it to the end. Start at the trail that leaves the road at the south end of the parking area. (Note: in winter Forest Road 45 may be closed to cars by snow. You can park in a parking area at the intersection of Route 73 and Forest Road 45 and extend the round trip distance to 4.6 miles and the elevation gain is 560 feet.)

Description: The Chittenden Brook Trail starts on an old woods road, and climbs moderately. Look for an intersection with the Beaver Pond Trail at 1.7 miles. Follow this trail for 0.1 miles to the pond, which is a good spot to look for wildlife. Retracing your steps back to the Chittenden Brook Trail, you will continue toward the Long Trail. You will pass a 0.4 miles spur that leads to Chittenden Brook Campground. The trail climbs through mixed hardwood and spruce/fir forest, becoming steeper as it ascends to its intersection with the Long Trail at 4.1 miles. The Beaver Pond Trail can also be accessed by starting at site #7 in Chittenden Brook Campground and following signs to the Chittenden Brook Trail.
